Craig Ferguson safe after anthrax scare

craig-ferguson-cbs.jpgFor the second time in less than a week, the late night talk show world has been rocked by a death threat. On Tuesday (Aug. 23) "The Late Late Show" host Craig Ferguson received an envelope with a white powder the sender claimed was anthrax.

The AP reports that two people at CBS Television City, where the program is taped, were held after being exposed to the powder. After a hazardous materials team determined the powder to be benign, the individuals were released.

A certainly relieved Ferguson was able to discuss the scare in his monologue.

Ferguson tells his audience, "Today someone sent an envelope packed with white powder to the show ... The police did test it and it's not dangerous, so you have no excuse to leave."

"Nowadays, white powder in the mail is a bad thing," Ferguson continues, a joking reference to his days of cocaine use. "I called CBS security and they said, 'We're busy.' So I told them I am a personal friend of Drew Carey and they sent somebody over right away."

Ferguson took to his Twitter page, explained what happened and thanked the law enforcement officials for their help.

Last week, David Letterman received death threats on a jihadist website for comments he made about al Qaeda's succession plans following the death of Osama bin Laden.

The FBI said they are investigating.
