Box Office: 'Final Destination 5' falls short on opening day
We don't totally understand it, but "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" continues to perform. The movie scooped up an estimated $8.1 million on Friday night, bringing its grand total to an impressive $85.4 million as it continues to generate positive word-of-mouth buzz. Also performing well this weekend is "The Help," which, with a Friday total of about $7.6 million, comes up number two just behind "Planet of the Apes," giving the film an approximate gross of $17.5 million.
We'll leave all the death jokes and destination puns to other outlets -- it's just too easy. In its opening night, "Final Destination 5" underperformed, grossing $7.3 million on Friday and falling below studio projections.
Rounding out the top 5 are "30 Minutes or Less," grossing a disappointing $4.8 million, and "The Smurfs," whose $3.8 million brings their total to a fantastic $91.8 million.

as for final destination 5's weak box office. it is called karma. the last one changed it's opening weekend to face off against rob zombie's halloween 2 because the studio knew the weinsteins and dimension were having $ troubles and were having difficulty even releasing a film.

No surprise, they keep making the same flick over & over. With the exception of a handful of movies this summer has been a disapointment.
