Amy Winehouse tribute scheduled for 2011 MTV Video Music Awards

amy-winehouse-singing-getty.jpgThe 2011 MTV Video Music Awards are Sunday, Aug. 28.  It will feature a tribute to the gone-too-soon singer Amy Winehouse, who passed away tragically last month at the age of 27.

Tony Bennett, whose duet with Winehouse that appears on his upcoming "Duets II" album and is the last recording she made before her death, will introduce the tribute. MTV and Bennett have released a statement detailing that the tribute would feature a debut video of Bennett's and Winehouse's recording session at the Abbey Road Studios in London.

"It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse and when you listen to the recording of 'Body and Soul,' it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known," says Bennett.

The "Body and Soul" single and video will be released for puchase on Sept. 14, which would have been Winehouse's 28th birthday. Proceeds will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which was established by Amy's family after her passing.

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, Aug. 28 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

There should not be a tribute to a person who treated their life like **** and died from it. She is not worthy of anything from anyone.

Hey, thanks for the heads-up. I'll be sure to miss it.

it's a shame you people don't understand that poor girl died from withdrawal of alcohol, living with an addiction is a disease She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. RIP Amy. I'll be wearing my liner heavy for you.

Amy met her demise the old fashioned way: she earned it!!! To the person who wrote, "It's a shame you people don't understand that poor girl died from withdrawal of alcohol," I say I do understand. I understand she was a drunk and a junkie and no one forced her to be either. In this enlightened day and age, with so much information available, so few secrets and the intense media attention that people like her enjoy (and I DO mean enjoy), she had no excuse for even touching the stuff. She had to know what the eventualy outcome would be. She got exactly what she worked for, an early death. Half of what she did was done to generate a headline. Her last was her best.

Amy Winehouse was an amazing artist; her voice was a beautiful gift and she was an incredible writer. My favorite songs by her are Valerie, Tears Dry On Their Own, and Love Is A Losing Game. I am looking forward to seeing the tribute to her on Sunday night. It's so sad to know that she's "Gone Too Soon"...she was trying to beat her addictions. Amy really had a great voice; she was the real deal.

MTV you make me sick! Well I guess to get ratting since no one watches your Crappy Channel Anymore! I dont see you paying tribute to all the people who lost there life in the war. But you will make a tribute to a drug using singer!

hope they use this opportunity to talk about addiction and it affects on people. so many out there suffer from addiction. many times they are struggling with ways to overcome it. but are unable to find the right avenue that is right for them. i myself is struggling with alcoholism. i come from a great environment. but am scared. aa was not the answer for me. every day and night it eats me alive. i struggle personally every day. i think amy's body just shut down from the abuse. that is my fear. i pray everyday for some clarity so that i'm able to find some peace and not suffer the long terms affects of what this abuse does to my body. god bless you amy. i feel your pain. hope i can learn from it before i'm taken to soon as well.

Bill Conners and Robert what a couple of jackasses

People are given tributes because of their contribution to the arts and music, not because of who they are. Amy was an addict and a junkie but at least she shared something to the whole world and the whole world loved it.

I think it's fitting she get a tribute. She was a great singer and artist. She deserves a tribute just like anyone else who dies. HE without sin please cast the first stone.
