Adam Carolla apologizes for homophobic statements, GLAAD doesn't accept 'empty apologies'

adam-corolla-gi.jpgAdd Adam Carolla to the long list of comedians prompted to apologize for offensive statements. Last week, Carolla ranted on his podcast about the transgender community, suggesting that LGBT people should "shut up" and stop "ruining his life."

"When did we start giving a sh*t about these people?" he said. He claimed that the acronym should be Y.U.C.K. instead of L.G.B.T.

You can listen to the podcast at this link, but it's not exactly a pleasant experience. Beware of offensive words, offensive sentences, offensive monologues... etc.

GLAAD responded. "Given his history of anti-gay and racist comments, networks and advertisers should know what their money is supporting if they choose to hire Adam Carolla," saysHerndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD. "The gross intolerance that he tries to pass off as comedy should not have a place on our airwaves."

Included in Carolla's "history" of homophobia is his claim that gay parents are "not as good as" straight parents -- which he made public two years ago when he was still on "Loveline."

Carolla has apologized for the podcast rant, releasing the statement, "I'm sorry my comments were hurtful. I'm a comedian, not a politician."

But GLAAD isn't accepting the apology. Instead, they're warning advertisers that supporting Carolla is a strike against the LGBT community.

"Adam Carolla has a history of making anti-LGBT and racist statements," said Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD. "Networks and advertisers should remember that attacking people who are different from him, and following it with empty apologies, is just a regular part of Carolla's routine."

Political Correctness is just out of control. Too much money to be made playing the Gay Card.

Oh yeah, the "gay card." Had he said something racist against African Americans everyone would be on board. But hey, we let queers live, they should be thankful, huh?

Expecting respect and decency is not playing a "card" of any type. Take your bigotry and shove it.

like Tracy Morgan...no 1 cares what a talentless nobody thinks.
Both r not easy on the eyes. If all gay men looked like them i'd go srt8.

IF GLAAD DOES NOT ACCEPT EMPTY APOLOGIES, THEN GLAAD SHOULD NOT DEMAND THEM. Just sayin...

@Jersey

I read nowhere in GLAAD's response to his comments where they "demanded" an apology. I guess I shouldn't be correcting you though, given your ALL CAPS STYLE! I assume you're either a 12 year old boy, entering senility, or just simply crazy.

What ever happened to freedom of speech? I would like to see a celebrity say something stupid and not apologize for it.

I find it so comical people always bring up freedom of speech in situations like this. Shows how ignorant so many people are of what that means.

No-one prevented Adam to go on his homophobic rant. That is his freedom of speech being exercised. In the same breath, my freedom of speech is being exercised by condemning Adam for his homophobia, along with thousands of others. It works both ways.

In the eyes of people like Jersey, respect for LGBT people is conditional. The problem is that about 40% or so of the USA don't really view gay people as equals. So therefore, they don't really value their humanity, or respect them as people. To people like beware, it's a gay card and "sensitive" to expect respect and equal treatment. People like Adam saying that LGBT people should just shut up and accept being second class. Stop raining on the parade of society. Stop trying to "fit in" cause, we're gay. We don't belong.

That ultimately is what this comes down to. People with a straight vs. gay mentality. It's pathetic. It's sad. And it's WRONG and will be fought against at every turn.

OK -- I get it now, most of you are saying it is perfectly fine to denigrate gays -- the whole LGBT community. Afterall, gays are "less than...", right?

Next time AC's on Leno, I'm not watching and I will let advertisers and Leno know!

Money talks, right? So let us boycott AC -- those of you who believe this stuff just cannot go on.

And "J-scum" (nice handle, goes with your comments) -- when did GLAAD "ask" for an apology?

That's what passes as discrimination? And is he not permitted to think a man and woman make better parents? These "articles" are ridiculous and I'm sick of the constant complaining. The stage is being set for an Andrew Dice Clay type comedian to build a career by not pandering to the hypersensitive fringe.

freedom of speech is if you'll say something good (not to spread hated and indifference).

It's never easy to be gay, that's something that most people don't understand.

And it's never been our selfish choice, just for you to know.
