Aaliyah honored, remembered 10 years after death
It was 10 years ago Thursday (Aug. 25) that R&B star Aaliyah was killed. The singer and emerging actress was just 22 when her plane crashed in the Bahamas. She was there filming a video for her song "Rock the Boat."Her close friend Missy Elliott took to Twitter to remember the late star.
She writes, "Aaliyah til this very day u r still in Your own Lane! Ure music is Timeless! We miss u!"
Aaliyah had a brief but prolific show business career including three platinum-selling albums: "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number", "One in a Million" and "Aaliyah." She also starred in the movie "Romeo must Die," a film with a U.S. box office grossed of nearly $100 million.
To honor her memory, BET airs the special "Aaliyah: One In A Million" Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. The show will include thoughts from celebrities including Damon Dash, Missy Elliott, Nadine Ellis, Patti LaBelle, Kelly Rowland and Timbaland.
