Vanilla Ice: 'I never badmouthed [Justin Bieber] at all,' 'giving him advice'

vanilla-ice-justin-bieber.jpgOn Thursday (July 21), the Huffington Post reported that Vanilla Ice, in an interview conducted for "The Vanilla Ice Project" on DIY Network, Vanilla had a few choice words for teen pop sensation Justin Bieber.

Ice says, "I mean, I did 'Ice Ice Baby' when I was 16. So I can kind of relate a bit. Sold over a hundred million records. And I had a weekend that lasted about three years, and I didn't know who I was, what's my purpose in life. So my prediction about Bieber is that he's going to go through one of those weekends that lasts a few years because he's had such success as a child act. You know, then something else new will come along and he'll be forgotten and he can try to put all the pieces back together, so it's going to be entertaining to watch."

Now Vanilla Ice has not exactly recanted his statement but he has put the quotes into context a bit. He tells the Huffington Post in a follow-up:

"What you guys might not have picked up on is that I was giving him advice -- when you're a child star, it's hard to figure out your purpose in life. Not just with me, but if you follow other child stars, like Britney Spears, who's now doing great. There's a transitional period after such tremendous success that you have to figure out your life. There's a real life after all this entertainment. I wasn't trying to say anything bad about anybody. I never badmouthed him at all. It's been twisted into something bad, and once that's out there it takes on a life of its own. I don't have any reason to hate anybody; I believe in good karma and spreading good energy."

What do you think, Bieber fans? Does it make sense to you?

Makes sense and I agree with Vanilla Ice. Most likely Justin will enjoy a couple more years of fame at it's current height... then the next young teen sensation will come along and he will be forgotten for the most part. Pre-teen and teen girls tend to be pretty fickle and easily move on to the next good looking singer... they don't tend to be very loyal in the long run.

That doesn't say anything bad about Justin's talent, I like him (and I'm male)... I'm a fan. It just speaks about the fanbase acts. Young teen girls are obsessed with keeping up with what's hip and the current trend. If it's old it gets tossed aside. That's not being a TRUE fan you girls out there (even though you claim to be ones).

Or maybe I and Vanilla could be proven wrong... maybe Justin will continue to ride a steady wave of fame into adulthood and have a decent life long career with this.

Time will tell...

Nothing special about this lame JB...he's soooooo GAY! Look at his face he looks like Selena... Duhh!

I agree... lol

I love Justin and his character will get him through. Unlike the raunchy Vanilla Ice who slept with Madonna among other things and probably drank himself to drug problems.....Justin is going to be just fine.

Vanilla Ice must have not quite recovered from his "weekend" if he thinks he was 16 when he released "Ice Ice Baby". He was born in 1967 and the record came out in 1989.

yes, I agree with Vanilla Ice, it is adviee. These Beliebers just don't want to hear the truth. I mean look at the Jonas Brothers, Jesse McCartney all childhood stars that were forgotten. I knew from the first article that it was advice. Justin Timberlake even said Justin needs a backup plan too.

Justin Bieber will be a force in the music world for a very long time. Get used it guys. This is the worlds white Michael Jackson. This kid ain't done yet, not at all.

@jacque jones: ok it's just really stupid to compare justin bieber to michael jackson. what vanilla ice said is true. and justin biber isn't such a good boy anymore. don't be a hypocrite. lol.

0K@Y , $0 YEW think jb is turning bad lol. he's going to be 18 next yr. he's fine. jt said he needs a bup becuz jb turned him down. he's the most famous kiid dude EVA!!!!!!

At the last comment...Your post would be given more weight if you did not use slang , just correct english and punctuation. I believe Justin Bieber has good parents who are raising him correctly. And Vani;;a Ice is just passing on lessons that he learned the hard way but maybe he did not have proper supervision.
