The saddest movie ever: Find out which film is the biggest tearjerker

the-champ-ricky-schroeder.jpgIf you're looking for an uplifting Friday night at home with your family, we do not recommend that you rent "The Champ." A scientific study proved that the 1979 film featuring Jon Voight as a washed-up boxer contains the saddest scene of all time. Seriously, that's what scientists do.

The scene in question is the one where Ricky Schroder "watches his battered dad die. It's a moment that makes Schroder and the hardened old men in the scene all bawl their eyes out, and it's all but guaranteed to do the same to you," according to Smithsonian.com.

The study was apparently conducted in 1995, though it's just now surfacing, so it's entirely possible that a sadder movie has been made in the last 15 years. (We'd like to nominate Keanu Reeves' "Hardball." When G-Baby dies we cry every single time - and not even a dainty, theater-appropriate cry. A gross, loud, runny-nose kind of cry.

Watch "The Champ" footage here and drop us a line in the comments to let us know whether it got you bawling.
