Scarlett Johansson gets Marine Corps Ball invite

Stop the madness.

Scarlett Johansson has become the latest in a long string of celebrities targeted by a Marine with a YouTube invite to the Nov. 10 Marine Corps Ball.

Sgt. Dustin L. Williams invited Johansson to the celebration held at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga.

"Scarlett Johansson," says Williams in the video, "it would be my pleasure to take you to the Marine Corps Ball and spend an evening with you."

No kidding.

The trend kicked off when both Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake agreed to attend after getting their own video invites.

Betty White turned down her prospective suitor, using work on "Hot in Cleveland" as an excuse, while original "Terminator" star Linda Hamilton accepted, telling her blind date, "rumor has it you like your actresses vintage."

Miley Cyrus, too, received an invite though, as far as we know, she hasn't yet responded.

Update: Although he hasn't yet received a response from ScarJo, Williams tells Zap2it that if she accepts the invite it would, "truly be an honor not only for me but also my fellow Marines ... Not only does it show their support for our troops, but it also [boosts] the morale of Marines as a whole."

But, adds Williams, he'll understand if she can't make it.

"I would not believe the invitation would be denied without good cause," writes Williams in an e-mail. "With her current career I would imagine Scarlett Johansson is a busy woman ... Nothing ventured, nothing gained."
