Micheal Vick gets Nike endorsement deal back

michael-vick-oprah.jpgMichael Vick, the NFL quarterback (now on the roster of the Philadelphia Eagles) who once served 20 months in Federal prison for bankrolling an illegal dog-fighting operation, is back in Nike's good graces. On Friday (July 1), the company announced it had re-signed Vick as a Nike athlete.

Before his 2007 conviction, the former Atlanta Falcon had a $2 million endorsement deal with the brand. Vick lost the endorsement and his job after news broke that a dog-fighting operation was run on property he owned in Virginia and had participated in the "victimization and killing of pit bulls."

"Michael acknowledges his past mistakes," Nike spokesman Megan Saalfeld tells CNN. "We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field."

Tell me again why athletes like Michael Vick and Tiger Woods get a pass in the sports world, but any other high profile person gets no second chance?? Big double standard here...

Two years in jail and millions of dollars lost is a free pass? Hate to think what you consider just punishment is. Vick served jail time for his crime. And Tiger Woods didn't do anything illegal. He cheated on his wife, and it'll cost him 9 figures at the minimum.
.

Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen, now THAT'S people getting away with stuff.

There is no excusing the cruelty he caused to helpless animals, especially dogs. If this is the type of personality that Nike wants to associate themselves with, then I want nothing to do with them.

I hated what he did but I am glad to see what he is doing off the field now. On his days off he is going out and speaking to kids to tell them not to do what he did. Ive been to a couple of his speakings he is changed. Everybody makes mistakes its how you make up for those mistakes to show how you really are as a person.

Well, no more Nike for my family. I don't care how penitent his public face is, or much money he paid, or time he lost, he made a choice to be cruel to mutliple animals for a good length of time. Those animals were hurt, maimed, killed, and he made money off it. It's disgusting, and I won't support him or any company that uses him to endorse their products.

SMITTY, KEEP TELLING YOURSELF THAT. "he's a changed man," hahaha. I bet if you saw video of that poor dog he picked up and body slammed on the concrete, you'd change your tune. Or one of him, ELECTROCUTING one of many dogs. But I guess you're one of those that thinks animals don't have rights or a voice.
One thing I've learned in life. Sex offenders never stop having urges, and violent people are incapable of empathy. It's a chemical thing, if that's what you are, YOU DON'T CHANGE. Remember that.

I guess I won't be buying n***! I am going to buy myself a nice pair of Asics!!

I will never ever buy anything from Nike again. I am so tired of bad people being rewarded for bad behavior. Never thought he should have been rehired to play football. What he did was unforgivable no matter how much time he did in prison.

this story disgusts me. You know what, during a football game if he doesn't catch the ball or his team looses, they should beat him and electrocute him.

Now thats what I call fair.

Sorry Nike, you lost this customer.

JUST DO IT !!! no more NIKE products for my family when a dog killer gets millions for the torture of innocent animals !!!And how much of this money will go to his scumbag hoodlum friends who should be pistol whipped until dead !!! HOPEFULLY A THUG LIFE MEANS AN EARLY DEATH FOR THESE SCUMBAGS !!! YOU SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND BE LIVING UNDER A BRIDGE LIKE POOR STRAY ANIMALS WHO SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF !!!
