Michael Vick endorses anti-animal fighting bill to House Judiciary Committee

michael-vick-getty-humane-society.jpgMichael Vick, an NFL player who was convicted and served time for dog fighting in 2007, has gone to Washington D.C. to endorse an anti-animal fighting bill in Congress. Reuters reports that Vick, two U.S. representatives and national Humane Society president and CEO Wayne Pacelle (pictured above with Vick) watched a grim video of a child watching a cock fight.

"In prison I told myself I want to be part of the solution, not the problem," says Vick. "These laws are not to punish people, but prevent people from getting involved."

The act is the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act of 2011 and it will strengthen penalties for people who finance illegal animal fighting and also close gaps in the existing laws dealing with bringing children to the fights. Vick says if those had been in place when he was growing up, perhaps he would not have gone down the path he did, as he said he saw animal fighting growing up.

"That child could be doing so much more with his life," says Vick, of the footage of the child at the cock fight. He adds that he'll remain involved "until we have a positive impact going for kids all around the world and we can put an end to it all."

It's good that the bill has a celebrity name on it to get to noticed and make people aware, but Vick is the wrong celebrity. He blames his choices on the way he grew up? Gag. We all have choices, he should have been competent enough to know that hurting innocent animals is wrong.

Just seeing him makes me sick and for Nike to restart working with him is just nuts. I have tossed my Nike gear and pulled them from the local little leagues and have switched to adidas as they have some morals which Nike doesn't. Vick should not be in the NFL and those teams who hire him are classless pieces of garbage but that kinda fits Phillys rep.

He makes me ill. There is no difference between his former actions and child abuse or domestic abuse. Would we accept a child abuser suddenly coming on stage and espousing an anti-child abuse bill? If he hadn't gotten caught, I have no doubt he would still be doing it. He is a sickening individual who is pulling a great PR hat trick for his own gain.

He didnt have to do this yet he did. He has changed his bad ways. It doesnt matter what he does though the people that hate him will never change their mind about him.
