Kirstie Alley calls out David Letterman for 'fat' jokes

The weekend is all about catching up on important things we missed during the week. Or napping. Anyhow, this falls into the first category: On Thursday (July 28), Kirstie Alley stopped by the "Late Show" to take David Letterman to task for a series of fat jokes he told while she was competing on "Dancing with the Stars" in the spring.

"I feel like I'm a little estranged from you," says Alley in the clip above. "I thought you loved me madly, but then you talked about me being a little 'chub'."

Letterman admits to having poked fun at Alley's weight, at which point the actress produces a list of said jokes to read back to Dave:

"Kirstie Alley joining Dancing with the Stars. If you don't already own one, now might be a good time to get a wide-screen TV."

"Last night on 'Dancing,' Kirstie Alley fell on the dance floor. How many of you felt it? However, the judges scored her an 8 -- on the Richter scale."

"I did these because I felt like I had your tacit approval," says a none-too-concerned Letterman.

"I said it was okay," Alley replies, "So that was like go ahead and tell 50 of them?"

Yup.

Kirstie is not even what you would consider fat, I think she is gorgeous! David should be ashamed of himself. I'm sure karma will find him.

If Kirstie didn't want people to make fat jokes about her she shouldn't have named her show 'Fat Actress'.

Kirstie has always been open and honest about her weight problem. She has also alwayas been able to laugh at herself and the non malicious jokes. It was playful banter on the show with Dave. Kirstie looked great and is maintaining the weight loss and really looks great for being 60 years old. It's nice to see stars that aren't all stuck up and hiding behind plastic surgery. Kirstie is a breath of fresh air.

Letterman is an idiot.

Love Letterman!

I dont believe she is 60...I would believe in her 40s and has a great sense of humor. I enjoyed her on Dancing With The Stars !!!

fat jokes are as amateurish as knock knock jokes. so basically if you are a late night host and you find yourself telling one in your monologue, then it's time to reassess your writing staff.

May, that's just not a very intelligent thing to say. I think you should try and write a monologue every night that keeps smart people happy. Heck, try to write one original joke right that could be on a late night show right now. If not, please be quiet and think before you write.

Letterman has been doing this pick on a celebrity act for years. He chooses one celebrity that represents a certain type of person - so not have to offend a ton of people (so to speak). He sometimes does it just to get them to come on the show. (He learned it from from Carson.) Do you hear any Madonna or Britney jokes any more?

I'm sure he'll find a new target. Probably Rush. (even though he usually saves him for drug jokes).

@Sporteric11- She was born in 1951. My goodness man, you have the internet in front of you, can you not google her name and find out? When I watched her on "Cheers" she was obviously in her 30's. THAT WAS IN THE 80'S!!!

@SARA B- PICTURES DON'T LIE. I don't what your definition of fat is...

All Letterman and his writers can come up with are insults that they call "punch lines". The only time Letterman makes headlines is with he shoots his big mouth off, it's time for him and Leno to retire and get new blood in those seats. If the "Late Show" was to disapear after Letterman retires it would be no great loss, there are too many stupid talkshows on right now anyway.
