Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony: Cheating, money, and control issues.
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony shocked many when they announced their split last Friday.
The couple, who had been married for 7 years, actually have a history that dates back to their youth when they dated. Now as they split the rumors are running rampant as to the cause.
Here are a few of the rumors that we've heard and our take on them:
1. Marc was too controlling. He didn't like her wardrobe choices. "This is not a surprise," says J-Lo's stylist Phillip Bloch. "Marc is very controlling. In the beginning she liked that because he stood up to her, and in the early days he was very much in love with her and she was with him."
Our take: This isn't the first time talk of Anthony's controlling attitude has gotten attention. In 2009, he got himself into hot water after slapping a reporter's camera away while Lopez was giving an interview at the Latino Inaugural Gala in honor of Barack Obama. Sounds like this could be a factor for sure.
2. Money issues "They also clashed when she learned he owed millions in unpaid taxes on the Long Island estate," said film-maker Ed Meyer, an associate of J-Lo's first husband, Ojani Noa.
Our take: While this is a common problem in a lot of marriages, this doesn't seem like enough to ruin the entire marriage... well, at least by celebrity income standards.
3. Location. "J-Lo's career is in Hollywood and she wanted to live in their Malibu mansion and Marc loved New York. She was going to move to New York in a last-ditch effort to save the marriage." says a close friend of the couple to the Daily Mail.
Our take: Considering she was willing to make the effort to relocate for him, it's fair to say this was most likely not the issue.
4. J-Lo cheated. The latest reports pair Lopez up with her "I'm Into You" music video co-star, William Levy. After the video, Levy separated from his wife of 8 years and Lopez ended her marriage with Marc Anthony.
Our take: Levy's rep tells TMZ that they are NOT an item. "The only relationship there was or is, is a professional relationship. That's all there's ever been." Seeing as the conclusion of an affair was based upon coincidence, we're shooting this one down.
The odds are that it was combination of any of these, but don't expect the rumors to go away anytime soon.
