Denise Richards: Charlie Sheen was 'sober, charming' when they met

Denise Richards stopped by "The View" on Tuesday to talk about her new book, "The Real Girl Next Door" (does Hef know about this?), the adoption of her new daughter Eloise and -- when asked by "View" doyenne Barbara Walters -- about ex-husband and tiger blood proponent Charlie Sheen.

"Today we're good," says Richards of her relationship with Sheen. "We have a very, you know, up and down-- But at the end of the day we have kids together and it's important to maintain a good relationship."

Richards also adds that when she met Sheen he was clean and sober and she didn't realize the extent of his addiction.

"He didn't need to be changed when I met him. When I met Charlie he had been sober for three years and was very charming, very grateful. I wasn't educated about addiction, so I fell in love with him and those issues weren't there."

Richards also sounded iffy about rumors that she would roast her ex during a scheduled Comedy Central special.

"A lot of people said that I was [asked], but I haven't been officially asked," says Richards. "On one hand I think it'd be funny, but on the other I don't know -- with the girls. If I'm seen roasting their dad, they won't understand."

And although Richards doesn't write about her bad moments with Sheen in her new book, she said it was important to share some details of her divorce -- at least in interviews.

"I hit my rock bottom -- I couldn't get a job, I was going through a divorce with the big sitcom star that everyone loved, but I got through it. I want to give hope to people out there."
