Demi Lovato's new single, 'Skyscraper,' hits iTunes charts
Demi Lovato's first post rehab single, 'Skyscraper,' debuted on the iTunes charts on Tuesday, with fans of the Disney darling pushing it up to the no. 8 position. The song symbolizes "my journey from the person I was to the happy healthy person I am today," Lovato tells Seventeen Magazine in a recent interview.
Earlier this year, the erstwhile "Sonny with a Chance" star entered rehab to deal with "emotional and physical issues" after she was caught on tape punching a Jonas Brothers back-up dancer in the face.
"Despite rumors, Demi wasn't in rehab for drugs or alcohol," a source told the New York Post at the time. "She was there for an eating disorder that was compounded by emotional and depression issues. The incident with the dancer was the catalyst. Demi realized she had a problem she had to fix, and the problem was how she was handling stress. It was manifesting itself in odd behavior and an eating disorder. She also has had cutting issues in the past. She decided enough was enough and she needed help."
"Skyscraper's" lyrics, not surprisingly, deal with finding strength within oneself:
"You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper!"
