'Captain Planet' to get live-action movie treatment
Get ready, '90s nostalgia lovers. "Captain Planet and the Planeteers," which aired as a cartoon from 1990-1996, is set for the live-action movie treatment, according to a press release. Cartoon Network and "Transformers" producer Don Murphy and partner Susan Montford's Angry Filmworks are teaming up together for the project. "The messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today," says Stuart Snyder, president of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.'s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media division. "We feel this team can bring the world's first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent but entertaining."
"His adventures are known worldwide and he is recognized across generations," says Murphy. "We expect to make a spectacular series of films with the amazing team at Cartoon Network."
"With the earthquakes, tornadoes, melting icebergs and all the other problems threatening the world right now, Earth really needs her greatest defender," adds Montford.
We have two questions - first off, who should play Captain Planet? And secondly, can we look forward to a live-action Gummi Bears or Rescue Rangers movie too?
The press release gave no indication about a release date or time frame for the "Captain Planet" movie.

This was a lame cartoon even in the 90's. What a waste of money and time. If you think people didn't spend much to see Green Lantern and Thor, just wait til you get the reviews from this. Captain Planet ranks right up there with the Wonder Twins. What a joke!
Oh wow - I loved Captain Planet when I was a kid! I never really followed Green Lantern or Thor or Xmen, so when my boyfriend wants to go to those I just kind of play interest. I am actually excited about a potential Capt. Planet movie. I still remember the theme song- haha how embarrassing!
When I saw this on Yahoo's trending list I thought to myself, "Oh God I hope they're not giving him a movie too."
Really?!??!!!!! They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel if Captain Planet is the best superhero they can come with to make a movie about. I'd rather watch another Catwoman or Fantastic Four movie....really...it's that deep.
Something tells me they are really going to screw this up. And why a live action? Does anyone know how to draw anymore?
Let's all teach our kids to hate on big corporations and take terrorist-type measures to stop them. It is totally ok to bomb a power plant Jimmy, because Ted Turner and his slut wife Jane Fonda (creators of the show) told you to.
David Hasselhoff was born to play captain planet. The End.
Captain Planet he's our hero!!! Gotta love a superhero who cleans up the earth and rocks an awesome green mullet!!!
How about Captain Communist? Or SuperMohammed? TelePrompterMan? The Green Progressive? The OverTaxer? Or maybe Mr. HopeyDopeyChangey? Wait! We already have all of them in one man and he ended up being a super-villain! BAM!!
Will Whoopi have a part in the movie ??? And can Jane Fonda play the villian... Who hasnt seen Monster-in-Law ??? With all the ecological disasters lately one can only think that Captain Planet is losing !!!
