Betty White gets Marine Corps Ball invite

betty-white-gi.jpgFirst it was Mila Kunis. Then Justin Timberlake. Both received invitations to, and will indeed attend, the Marine Corps Ball. The trend started last week when a Marine posted a video invitation to Kunis on YouTube. Another, asking her "Friends with Benefits" co-star Timberlake to attend, soon followed.

Now Sgt. Ray Lewis has uploaded his dating request, too. Lewis first shows off his physical prowess -- doing a series of pull-ups, crunches and a sprint -- before asking 89-year-old actress (and recent it-girl) Betty White to be his date for the November event.

"I think I could make her laugh," says Murphy in the video. "I think she could make me laugh. I think we could laugh together."

White, unfortunately, won't be able to make it.

"I am deeply flattered and truly appreciate the invitation, as everyone knows I love a man in uniform," says White in a statement. "But unfortunately I cannot accept, as I will be taping an episode of Hot In Cleveland. Love, Betty White."

Shucks.

If you were able to invite a celeb to the ball -- or any old event -- who would it be?

It was sweet and innocent. That would have been an exciting date for the both of them. I'm sure everyone would have been impressed with Betty.

It seemed like a nice publicity stunt... but this guy should know that Betty does her episodes in the Fall to prep for next Spring.. should have asked out other stars of the film
