Bette Midler calls out Lady Gaga on Twitter
Bette Midler is the original "Mermaid in a Wheelchair" and she won't let you forget it!The Australian fans who egged Lady Gaga after her "Mermaid in a Wheelchair" act weren't the only ones who disliked the routine. Bette Midler decided to remind Gaga that she originated the "Mermaid in a Wheelchair" act on Twitter.
"I'm not sure @ladygaga knows that I've performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people -- and many of them still alive," Midler tweeted on July 15.
After no response from Gaga, Midler tweeted on the subject again the next day. "Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar-it's because it is!You can see it on youtube 24/7-with ME performing it." Watch Midler's "Mermaid in a Wheelchair" performance here.
Midler then sent another message to Gaga: "Dear @ladygaga Ive been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980-You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits-mermaid's mine." Oh snap, there's about to be a mermaid fight!
Midler's tweets were not publicly acknowledged by Gaga, but we're guessing a private conversation may have occurred as Midler recently tweeted, "@ladygaga let's drink this over at the Emmys in September. Fabulous mermaids can coexist!" And they can also tweet.

there is nothing original about gaga. her music is always others melodies, her clothing and schtick. Bette is a true original, can sing, act, dance and entertain better than any plastic enhanced bimbo. why she would want to break bread with this loser is beyond me. the mermaid in a wheelchair was a riot and everyone remembers it was Bette who was that character. gaga, it's time for you to gogo
Bette, your will always be at the top of my list.....whether it be a mermaid in a wheelchair or coming out of a clamshell or "under the boardwalk" but I do like some of GaGa's music....its really good dance music.....along with some of yours....but like I said, you will always be at the top.
oh, and one of the things that has always been on the top of my bucket list is to see you in person but that has never happened.....yet.

i actually laughed when i saw the news that gaga got egged. best day of my life !! haha! bette is an amazing singer and actress the fact that gag tried this is messed up! maybe she thought no one would make the connection to bette! this isn't the first time she's copied another artist though even though it is the first made public. personally i don't like gaga at all. she seems to try too hard and rips off good artist one of her songs is actually a rip off of a korean girl group song. gaga is anything BUT original! bette will always be remembered gaga will come and go faster than britney spears!
