Tracy Morgan apologizes for anti-gay rant: 'I'm not a hateful person'

Just a few hours after a viral Facebook post gave Tracy Morgan's anti-gay rant at a Nashville, TN, comedy show a much larger forum, the "30 Rock" star issued an apology.

"I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville," reads the statement obtained by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. "I'm not a hateful person and don't condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context."

Morgan's comments -- which included saying that he'd stab his own son to death if he was gay -- quickly drew fire from GLAAD.

The organization released a statement, prior to the apology, calling on him to "remove these violently anti-gay remarks from his show and send a strong message that anti-gay violence is not something to joke about."

Is Tracy's apology enough -- or do you think we'll be hearing more about this?

He should not be hired at comedy clubs, his career should be over. They say whatever they want and get away with it and use the "It was comedy" to get out of it, and think an I'm sorry will get them off the hook. This guy is NOT funny

His apology is a crock of bullcrap. We know how you REALLY feel, you bigot. Tracy is scum, just like Michael Richards. You don't get to "joke" about things like that and them say "Oh, sorry if it offends you that I'd kill my kid if he were gay. That wasn't funny." You thought it was until other people didn't! I'll never support Tracy Morgan in anything he does in the future.

That apology is not real. His rant reflected his actual words and his actual feelings.

I love Tina Fey. I have always supported her. But I cannot in good conscious continue following 30 Rock after this. Tracy has always been an off-putting comedian but this particular act deeply offended me. As a parent of a gay son -I would never say I would "stab" my son if he came out gay to me. This was not done in the way of comedy -it was a direct attack against gay people. If it was done in a comedic way -it would had been a short off-color comment. Instead he continued his rant. There is obviously some deeply hidden hate he has in his heart. And for me to support him by watching him on 30 Rock would make me feel like a hypercrite.

His apology is meaningless. When nothing was written for him he displayed his true feelings.

@JettaJameson and East, GLAAD DEMANDED AN APOLOGY, HOW SINCERE WAS IT SUPPOSE TO BE? Besides, he has nothing to appolagize about. HE'S A COMEDIAN, NO MATTER HOW DARK THE MATERIAL. I AM SICK OF SENSITIVE LITTLE GIRLS SUCH AS YOU GUYS. I'm only sorry he actually gave in to their demands and made a statement.

DON'T DEMAND AN "I'M SORRY" IF ALL YOU'RE GONNA DO IS BASH IT. Then what's the point of demending it? He was right about everything accept the killing his kid part. You people need to get your panties out your cracks and quit with being over-bearing on heterosexuals, YOU GUYS ARE ACTUALLY RUINING YOUR IMAGE INSTEAD GAINING SUPPORT FROM THE STRAIGHT COMMUNITY.

He got on a roll making fun of Lady Gaga and let it get out of hand. That's it, he apologized and people should just accept it or just let it go all together. Its comedy, it happen.

@Woof

Have you ever seen anything the guy has done in some of his roles on SNL or movies or anything? He doesn't hate gays. It jsut got out of hand. But I guess every topic is ok for comedians except gays because they're so sensitive, right?
