Sienna Miller settles phone-hacking claim, receives apology
After a long legal battle, Sienna Miller has accepted £100,000 and an apology from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp for hacking her voicemail to acquire information about her relationship with Jude Law, Reuters reports. The information was published in the tabloid News of the World."The information should never have been obtained in the manner it was," reads an excerpt from the 15 paragraph apology. "The private information should never have been published and [the News of the World] has accepted liability for misuse of private information, breach of confidence and harassment."
When she filed her claim, Miller said Vodaphone informed her that a private detective had obtained PIN numbers for nine cellphones, including those belonging to her publicist, Law, Law's assistant and her friend.
Miller's stepmother Kelly Hopen is also suing the media organization, claiming her phone was hacked as well.
