Ryan Reynolds' 'Green Lantern' takes Friday Box Office lead
Psh... who cares what the critics say?
Despite negative reviews, Warner Bros.' "Green Lantern" is off to a solid start at the box office, taking in $21.6 million on Friday, June 18. The superhero flick starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively also earned $3.4 million in midnight receipts. "Green Lantern" is on pace to earn $60 million this weekend, which puts it on par with summer's other superhero fare -- "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class."
This weekend's other new release Jim Carrey's "Mr. Popper's Penguins" pulled in $6.4 million on Friday. The film, which cost $55 million to make, is on pace to earn $15 million.
J.J. Abrams' supernatural thriller "Super 8" came in third with $6 million and should add another $20 million to its gross. "X-Men: First Class" ($3.4 million) and "The Hangover Part ll" ($3.2 million) rounded out the top five.
What are you seeing this weekend, Zappers?
