Russell Crowe cast as Superman's father in 'Man of Steel'
Meet the new Jor-El: Russell Crowe.Variety is reporting that Crowe has signed on to play Superman's biological father in the franchise reboot "Man of Steel." Crowe reportedly beat out Sean Penn and Clive Owen for the role.
Jor-El was one of the film's last roles to cast, along Superman's biological mother who has not yet been cast. Henry Cavill is set to play Superman in the reboot, which Zack Snyder is directing.
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play Superman's adoptive parents. Also starring in the film are Amy Adams (Lois Lane) and Michael Shannon (Zod).
Marlon Brando famously took on the role of Jor-El in Richard Donner's "Superman" in 1978.

Why can't an American play Superman? There are thousands of actors who could do this!
@Mike -- you must have some really inside info, because every other source on the planet has reported that Amy Adams will be playing Lois Lane. Or are you simply going by her red hair?
Warner's press release specifically states Amy is Lois.
