Awesome!!!! They are so sweet together.
What do you think, Liz? I notice that you didn't put in your opinion, but since this is such a controversial topic, I don't blame you.
Cool! I wish them all the happiness in the world.
NPH and his partner are so committed to one another -- more so than many hetero couples I see going to the altar these days. I'm delighted they're finally able to legalize their partnership.
I've never understood what the big deal over gay marriage was -- marriage is either a sacrament AND a civil contract, or simply a civil contract (as in a J.P. wedding). If the latter, then it has no religious significance, and so it shouldn't bother anyone. If their relgion/religious denomination permits them to enter into the sacrament, when what business is it of anyone else's what their religion permits them to do? If yours doesn't, well, that's fine -- it just means you don't have to enter into or honor the obligations of other denominations or religions.
The civil contract of marriage exists simply for clear lines of inheritance and legitimacy of children. Gay couples and singles are raising children, so the necessity of clear lines of inheritance and legitimacy is certainly significant. The sacrament means different things depending on your religion, and is no one's business except yours and your fellow adherents.
I'm both straight and happily married. I'm proud that my Christian denomination recognizes that love and commitment to one another is far more important than the respective sexes of the couple involved.
Marriage also allows for a spouse to make medical decisions, should the need arise. Too many states that do not recognize same sex marriage/relationships will not allow a partner to make a medical decision as they are not considered a family member, regardless of how many years they have been together.
