'Lost's' Evangeline Lilly joins 'The Hobbit'
From the Island to Middle-earth."Lost's" Evangeline Lilly (a.k.a. Kate Austen) has joined the cast of the highly anticipated film "The Hobbit." Director Peter Jackson made the announcement on his Facebook page. Barry Humphries was also cast in the film.
Jackson revealed Lilly will play a new character -- "the Woodland Elf, Tauriel" -- and said she will not be a love interest for Orlando Bloom's Legolas. "What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is," Jackson writes. "We are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life." Jackson teased fans with the meaning of her character Tauriel's name: "Daughter of Mirkwood."
Humphries will play the Goblin King "in the way Andy Serkis created Gollum," Jackson writes.
Lilly can next be seen opposite Hugh Jackman in "Real Steel," which hits theaters on Oct. 7.

Well, she used to date a Hobbit, maybe she's got a thing for them.
I was wondering when they'd insert a female character a la Liv Tyler into The Hobbit. At the rate they're going, the credit for the film is going to end up reading "loosely suggested by a novel by JRR Tolkien".
