Katie Couric zings Donald Trump, discusses her new show on 'The Tonight Show' [Updated]
UPDATED with her full interview -- in three parts -- below.Katie Couric appeared on "The Tonight Show" Monday (June 6), and while she spent a good amount of her time with Jay Leno discussing her new show, that's not the most fun part of the interview.
As you can see in the teaser clip below, Couric was not shy about sharing her opinion on Donald Trump's presidential campaign that wasn't. After allowing that Trump is someone "with a good heart," she said, "but I think he was just asking like a jackass for a while, don't you?"
Tell us how you really feel, Katie.
As for the deal she just signed to host a daytime show for ABC starting next year, Couric says, "That's still a work in progress right now, but it's gonna be topical, it's gonna be live, you know, hopefully it will deal with various issues."
She also thinks the talk-show format will fit her skills a little better than the anchor desk at the "CBS Evening News" did: "It's such an exciting challenge for me, and I think I'm better at interacting and talking to people and synthesizing complicated subjects -- I hope -- and, you know, doing interviews that require some empathy. On the 'Evening News,' it was hard to do that in that very structured format."
The Trump soundbite is below. We'll post her full segment when it becomes available Tuesday.

I will not watch her. She's just hateful to people that she disagrees with....
Did she really say "asking" -- or "acting"?
I'll refuse to watch her show if ABC uses it as an excuse to cancel "General Hospital". They'll try to say it's the ratings... but that's not the case, it will be about the money.
If Katie wants to gain some fans and support, she should take a stand urging ABC to make room for and keep "General Hospital". All ABC has to do is dump one of its syndicated shows to make room.
Trust me, I won't be the only one who will refuse to watch her if its her show that kills "GH"... people will steer clear of it AND ABC in droves.
