'Hangover II' tattoo suit settled; Ed Helms' ink remains intact

Ed Helms' face will remain as originally tattooed in "The Hangover Part II" for time immemorial.

Warner Bros., which produced the blockbuster comedy, has settled a lawsuit with a tattoo artist who claimed copyright infringement over the face tattoo given to Helms' character in the movie. Terms of the settlement with S. Victor Whitmill weren't disclosed, but Whitmill's lawyer, Geoff Gerber, tells The Hollywood Reporter that the two sides have "amicably resolved their dispute."

Whitmill sued the studio in April, about a month before "The Hangover Part II's" release. He claimed that he had a copyright on the tattoo, which he created for Mike Tyson (who appears in both "Hangover" movies). A judge turned down Whitmill's request to block the movie's release but allowed the case to continue.

A victory in court for Whitmill could have forced Warner Bros. to make digital alterations to the tattoo for the movie's home-video release. The settlement means that won't have to happen.
