Dalai Lama joke: Not funny, as per Dalai Lama's reaction

Think fast. How would you use your time given the opportunity for a one-on-one interview with the Dalai Lama?

Australian newsman Karl Stefanovic saw it as his chance to tell the exiled spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists a joke. Not necessarily the first thing to occur to any self-respecting reporter. We're glad he asked, though, because it makes for a nice little break from work.

Stefanovic: "So the Dalai Lama (laughing) walks into a pizza shop and says (snort snort) can you make me one with everything?"

Dalai Lama: Blank stare.

Stefanovic: "Do you know what I mean? Can you make me one (gestures) with everything."

Dalai Lama: If looks could talk, he'd be saying, "You're a total idiot, so I pity you."

Stefanovic: (laughing at himself somewhat maniacally) "Oh, I knew that wouldn't work."

Well, at least his instincts were good on that point.
