Box Office: 'Cars 2' races past the competition to the tune of $25 million

In its first day in theaters, "Cars 2" made $25.4 million dollars in ticket sales. According to The Wrap, the Disney-Pixar animated 3D kid flick is on pace to earn more than $70 million for the weekend.

Cameron Diaz's "Bad Teacher" also gets an "A" for surpassing earnings expectations. The comedy, which co-stars Jason Segel, took in $12.1 million on Friday and is expected to hit $30 million before the weekend is over.

In super-sad superhero news, the week-old Ryan Reynolds-fronted "Green Lantern" dropped 89 percent from its opening weekend, grossing only $6 million in Friday ticket sales.

Still holding strong in fourth place, J.J. Abrams' "Super 8" racked up $3.7 million more in ticket sales, bringing its domestic gross to $87 million.
