Anne Hathaway opens up about James Franco, Oscar criticism: 'I don't see a downside'

Anne Hathaway is still being subjected to talk of her less-than-positively-reviewed turn as an Oscar host.

The 28-year-old actress, next seen in the adaption of David Nicholls' "One Day," graces the cover of August's Harpers Bazaar -- and inside she's still talking about the Feb. 27 award show, particularly the comments she received from co-host James Franco.

"I let James know that a whirling dervish is a more flattering comparison than a Tasmanian devil," she says. "I called him, and we e-mailed a bit."

She's referring to Franco's interview on "The Late Show with David Letterman," in which he tried to explain his stoner-esque performance, saying, "I love her, but Anne Hathaway is so energetic, I think the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to Anne Hathaway."

But just as she puts Franco's comments in perspective, she does the same with the entire experience.

"In the grand scheme of things, I got to have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," says Hathaway. "I met great people, wore beautiful clothes. And I got to put on a show. I don't see a downside. Anyone who disliked my personality probably disliked my personality before the Oscars."

She should blame the idiot writers.

Anne is so 'normal'. She takes it all in stride. I still think the promos for the Oscars were funnier than the actual show. Anne and James definitely had chemistry before the show. They're both excellent actors and people need to get off their backs about the bad Oscars--they weren't that bad! There were many funny moments--just not as many side-splitting ones as some previous hosts have had. Anne had the 'let's put on a show' mentality, while James was more into 'let's get this over with because I'm not feeling so comfortable with it anymore'. It's not going to kill either of their careers. I think they're both nice people with a good sense of humor about themselves.

There will be new hosts for the next telecast.

Frankly, the Oscars shouldn't be longer than one hour. Funny hosts simply are an attempt to mask the inherent boredom. There are only a few awards that the public cares about; trim the show to just those and it would be a big improvement.
