Zach Galifianakis 'had to audition' for 'The Hangover: Part II'
Misleading headline? Okay, we're guilty. But to be fair, we'd be hard pressed to find a straightforward quote from Zach Galifianakis.
The actor (literally) drops by the "Conan" set to talk "The Hangover: Part II" on Monday night (May 16). The North Carolina native dished on his new place in New York City, how to pronounce his last name and growing up with an overly affectionate father.
"Well, you'd think it would be rewarding," he says of his overnight fame with "The Hangover." "But it's just not. I don't like it and it's always kind of the same thing: 'Hey, aren't you the fat guy from 'The Hangover?''"
That may or may not be the most honest quote out of him for the entire interview. Not that we're complaining, of course. Galifianakis brings the laughs with every subject, including his posh New York City pad.
"Right off Manhattan," he implies of his current digs. When Conan presses on what exactly that means, Galifianakis deadpans: "I live in the torch of the statue of Liberty."
"A lot of sunlight, good amount of sunlight. It's a walk-up," he jokes. "It's a little bit of a pain when you forget, 'Oh God, I gotta go back downstairs and get some chapstick.'"
After clowning around for a while, they finally show a clip from his new film. Galifianakis jokes that landing his part a second time around wasn't so easy.
"The only odd thing is that I had to audition for the sequel. Never heard of that before," he explains.
"They were looking for a Zach Galifianakis type," Conan retorts.
[Edit: A previous version of this article used the word "chopstick" instead of "chapstick." Thanks, text edit auto-correct.]
