'Vampire Diaries' star Paul Wesley films 'The Baytown Disco' in Louisiana

Paul Wesley's "Vampire Diaries" character went on a bloodthirsty bender in Thursday's Season 2 finale, but Wesley himself is spending the summer in a much more productive manner. He's currently in New Orleans playing a decidedly human character in "The Baytown Disco."

Wesley's casting was first reported by Deal Central, and he's already well into filming alongside Eva Longoria and Billy Bob Thornton. The film follows three redneck brothers, the Oodies, who agree to help a woman rescue her son from his abusive father.

Wesley -- who recently married "Pretty Little Liars" star Torrey De Vitto -- plays Anthony Reese, an FBI agent who arrives in the Oodies' small Southern town to investigate their misadventure. We're looking forward to seeing him step outside his teenage vampire gig to play a more authoritative adult role.

The film, directed by Barry Battles, is set for a 2012 release.
