Taylor Swift's 'Mean' video: A deserving message gone wrong
Taylor Swift's video for "Mean" has hit the web and while its message is admirable, we challenge her to find a more cliche way to illustrate the lyrics. Opening with a banjo everything seems fine and well, until we're introduced to a presumably gay teen clutching a fashion magazine being bullied in a locker room by a football team. The video follows up with a teen girl putting hard earned cash in a piggy bank labeled "college." Guess how they both end up? Wildly successful, of course!
"Someday I'll be living in a big ole' city and all you're ever gonna be is mean/Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me and all you're ever gonna be is mean," the lyrics preach.
The song runs under the assumption that the underdog always conquers all and mean ole' bullies just rot in their hometown. While high school outcasts have held on faithfully to that concept for ages (and sometimes yes, it does become reality) there's one flaw to her inspirational message -- In the real world, there are plenty of success people who are, you guessed it, mean.
We are all about overcoming obstacles and proving nay-sayers wrong so for that, we say "Go Swift!" But when it comes to the video, we could have done without the stereotypical examples. A little more thought and creativity would have been nice.

I think that Taylor Swifts mean video was great, i think she was just giving an example that some people in the world are going through and really appreciate her for that, and gain courage to get back up and move on, one day you could be so successful in a big city

This was a good video. Please stop over analyzing everything the girl does. It's entertaining and has a message that could help many. Her band was good on this video too.
The video was really good. It's not like Back To December and Mine, but the message was there. It never really said that all the mean people will go down in the dumps. It has an inspirational message which encourages us to never give up.
