Superman Henry Cavill engaged to Ellen Whitaker

Henry Cavill, who will star in Zac Snyder's "Man of Steel" Superman redux, is engaged. According to the Belfast Telegraph, the 28-year-old actor proposed to girlfriend Ellen Whitaker during a trip to Hollywood.

"I couldn't believe it when he asked me to marry him," said Whitaker, 24. "I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy."

Whitaker is a show jumping equestrian training for a berth on the British 2012 Olympic team. She first met Cavill at the 2009 Olympia International Horse Show.

"Man of Steel" is expected to begin filming this summer in Vancouver. Cavill also appeared in Showtime's "The Tudors" (pictured above).
