Saoirse Ronan joins 'Twilight' family with Stephenie Meyer's 'The Host'

saoirse-ronan-gi.jpgWith "The Twilight Saga" nearing its end, fans can take solace in the upcoming film adaption of "The Host," written by "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer.
'Hanna' and 'The Lovely Bones' star Saoirse Ronan has signed on the dotted line to portray lead character Melanie 'Mel' Stryder, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. The film, which will share the novel's name, is yet another supernatural love story -- this time centering around an alien race called "Souls."

These so-called "souls" arrive on Earth in an attempt to take over the human race, inserting themselves into a body and erasing the former human's mind. When a soul called Wanderer takes over Stryder's body, she is quickly overcome by the strength of her memories and emotions. As a result, Wanderer begins to develop a powerful connection to Stryder's former love interest and brother, setting off on an adventure to find if they are still alive.

The film will reportedly be shopped around to foreign buyers at the Cannes film market in May, though we have no doubts it will be snatched up quickly.

Are you excited for a new Stephenie Meyer based film? If you're a fan of "The Host," do you think Ronan will do Mel justice?

Considering it's Stephanie Meyer and the amount of revenue that the Twilight films (and merchandise) have brought their production company; I'm sure they will have no trouble finding a production company for "the Host." But lets just remember that the second time around isn't always as good as the first...

Read the Book before you comment. It is very well written and will be a hit. Another one that is just a good story and sensored enough for the 13 year crowd. THe material is fresh and much different that the Twilight Saga. Nice to have strong postive women roll models in Meyer's books
