Rob Lowe visits 'The View': Talks 9/11, sobriety, 'Stories I Only Tell My Friends'

rob-lowe-gi.jpgRob Lowe has all the luck. Not only is he a stealth entertainment business mogul who found himself a comfortable home on one of TV's best comedy's ("Parks and Recreation"), but erstwhile teen heartthrob visited "The View" on Tuesday (May 3), the one day Betty White just happened to be sitting in for Barbara Walters. Luck.

Lowe was on to talk about his new book, "Stories I Only Tell My Friends," but when asked about his reaction to the news of Osama Bin Laden's death, Lowe shared a story about unknowingly flying on one of the 9/11 hijackers dry-run flights (he was in D.C. filming "The West Wing") just days before the attack.

"I make the flight a lot -- I didn't really think anything of it," said Lowe. "Don't remember anything in particular. Nobody looked scary. Nobody looked like a terrorist."

Knowing that a good story never gets too stale, Sherri Shepherd made sure to ask Lowe about that 1988 sex scandal. But Lowe made lemonade out of lemons and said the incident -- in which he was taped having sex with two women, one underage -- was one of the best things that ever happened to him.

"It began that process when I began questioning what the heck I was doing with my life and it led to me getting sober," said Lowe. "And I'll be sober 21 years this week."
