'Pirates of the Caribbean 5'? Johnny Depp wants to 'hold off a bit'

johnny-depp-pirates.jpg"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" hasn't even hit theaters yet, but screenwriter Terry Rossio has already completed a script for a fifth installment of the franchise.

With the cash cow that is "Pirates," it may seem like a no-brainer to crank out the next film, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, there's one key ingredient that still needs to be added.

"It boils down to story, script and filmmaker," Johnny Depp says reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow once again. "It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012,' we should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me."

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is reportedly on board, so we imagine a fifth film can't be too far off. What do you think? Can the world handle another 'Pirates,' or has the franchise moved past its prime?

You can see Depp star alongside Penelope Cruz when "Pirates 4" hits theaters on May 20th.

For Johnny's sake he should let

Captain Jack sail off into the sunset.

The fourth made sense to restore the franchise
to its original luster lost from the last two installments.

Johnny is a great actor and there are better
roles to play to showcase that talent.

Its about doing whats fun for him, and these movies seem to do that for him. I enjoy the movies, looking forward to the 4th one but he's right about them waiting.

He seems to enjoy doing them, so he should be allowed to. But there should be more gap between. Don't run the interest into the ground, let it build up again.

Let's wait and see if the 4th film is able to recapture the magic of the first trilogy. The fact it's in 3-D means I won't be going to see it unless a theater in my area happens to show the 2-D version.

Is it "past its prime"? Most definitely. Pirates already had a surprise hit sequel(s), it's highly unlikely they'll be able to pull another one. Everyone I know seem to have the disposition that they should have stopped at 3 w/o even seeing the new movie so I dare say unless the reviews praise it to the heavens, many won't go see it out of prejudice. Then there's the lot that watched for Orlando and Keira...

It still may be good, though. And I trust Johnny Depp's judgement. I remember he almost didn't come back when the news broke about the old director not returning. He obviously believes in this project and has fun filming it.

I agree about the gap: Pirates is timeless, they don't need to hurry before the hype dies down or people move on to the next big thing, the franchise itself resurrected this genre.

i think johnny depp's really enjoying this storyline... i think he's fond of doing somewhat "fantasy" characters like the one on charlie and the chocolate factory or even on the alice in wonderland... he really potrays the characters explendid...

for the fourth installment... i think they're right that they don't need to rush to create the next sequel coz fans will really wait for it and the longer it will stay out of the screen the more excitement it will create...

For sure make another pirates. If people complain then they don't need to go. There is still a big fan club that loves all the pirate movies and Johnny.

As great an actor as Johnny Depp is,he's got to realize he's not getting any younger and who better for the role then him. If they have a script ready for him I say go for it. I want to see as many times as I can see him be Jack Sparrow. Too bad he can't be as a TV series like Kevin Sorbo was in Hercules. I liked him playing the part of Hercules. He couldn't do a better job with his other movies but it was his personality that won me over. I wonder who could play Jack Sparrow in a TV series if he didn't want to star in it?

How about the next movie, , they can call it "Pirates of the Carabbean and the Holy Grail" Another idea since these particular pirates are not just looking for gold but the secret to eternal life.I mean that's what every movie has been about and what better then the search for something to be believed to another mith. If they need more ideas there are plenty like that to choose from.

Pirates 5'' Do it!!! Sexier cast( More Mermaids) bigger adventures ... A more historical plot adding Stories like the lost city of Atlantis or the Bermuda Triangle ... These movies are fun and should be growing with the audience. A majority of the people in my theatre where older. Disney do it big !!!
