Marlee Matlin owes $50,000 in back taxes

What does "Celebrity Apprentice" contestant Marlee Matlin have in common with Nicolas Cage and Wesley Snipes? aside from the acting thing, Matlin is also in a spot of trouble with the Internal Revenue Service. Matlin owes a reported $50,000 in back taxes from 2009 and is working out a payment schedule to avoid any further fines or unpleasantness.
"I'm paying it back. I'm not shying away from it and I'm certainly not ashamed of it," Matlin tells People. "It doesn't mean I'm a bad person. It's reality. It's the reality that a lot of people in America are facing."
"Living modestly in a suburban neighborhood while trying to support four children through private school is not extravagant or living large," Matlin adds. "My husband is a Los Angeles area police officer and between the two of us we have always made ends meet in the past -- and we will in this circumstance as well."
Matlin has put the family's home up for sale and plans to move to a community with better public schools.
"I'm not broke," says Matlin. "Like everybody else, I owe money." In the end, she says she's lucky because, "My family is healthy and happy."

She is a very sweet, smart and lovely lady. She will come out of this in good shape.
I really don't like her. I think she is way overrated as an actress. But, this story is lame. Lot's of people owe back taxes. Did she try to cheat on her taxes like Wesley Snipes? No, she likely just didn't have the money to pay them. So what! Leave her alone.
I admire your honesty, and it is true. This is the position of many americans in this economy. I think she is very classy.

I agree. I think she is overrated. She won an Oscar but honestly that was for "playing a deaf person" (stretch!)and it was years ago. I'm sorry but not paying taxes is inexcusable!
