Malin Akerman joins 'Rock of Ages' cast

As if Malin Akerman's career wasn't already on fire, the "Bang Bang Club" actress has landed the last key role in Adam Shankman's "Rock of Ages."

Akerman will reportedly play Constance Stack, a journalist who is seduced by rocker Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amy Adams and Anne Hathaway were both up for the role but a deal never panned out due to scheduling conflicts.

The flick based on the Broadway musical is set to begin filming on May 19 in Miami with Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Julianne Hough and Diego Gonzalez Boneta all signed on to star.

The film is expected to be released in 2012 -- undoubtedly a big year for Akerman as Entertainment Weekly points out, this will be her sixth film for the year. She also notably snagged the role of Linda Lovelace in "Inferno" right from under Lindsay Lohan's nose.
