Kirk Cameron on Stephen Hawking's 'free pass' -- 'Like bullying a blind man'
The latest celebrity feud comes to us courtesy of Kirk Cameron. And by "celebrities," we mean Mike Seaver and a cosmologist. The actor-turned-evangelist does not see eye-to-eye with renowned scientist Stephen Hawking and he's not afraid to admit it. Well ok, he seems kind of afraid to admit it.
Two days after Hawking proclaimed that Heaven does not exist and the after-life was a "fairy story" for people who are afraid of death, the "Growing Pains" star tells E! News that the claims are 'absurd.'
"To say anything negative about Stephen Hawking is like bullying a blind man," he says. "He has an unfair disadvantage, and that gives him a free pass on some of his absurd ideas. Professor Hawking is heralded as 'the genius of Britain,' yet he believes in the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything and that life sprang from non-life."
The comments under fire come courtesy of an interview with the U.K.'s Guardian.
"I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail," Hawking said. "There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark."
"Why should anyone believe Mr. Hawking's writings if he cannot provide evidence for his unscientific believes that out of nothing, everything came?" Cameron asks.
We think everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs. So if Cameron disagrees with Hawking, just own it! We hardly think the "bullying a blind man" comment was necessary.
Hawking has yet to respond to the actors comments and Cameron's rep was reportedly unavailable to comment on whether or not he has actually read Hawking's writings.

What happened to Zap2it's entertainment news reporting? Now, they report (or provide commentary in this case) on just about anything slightly related to "celebrities". There are enough "rags" to cover the tabloid fodder, so I wish Zap would stick to what it used to be good at. I know that a lot of people have expressed the same thing in the comments, but I finally felt it was worth it for me to write something after this non-article. I miss the old days, and I continue to read on the site (and yes, even peruse through commentary "articles" like these) because I long and hope for those days of real entertainment news reporting to return here. But those days are numbered.
Why is it the scientific world always demand evidence that.God is real, yet they never provide tangible evidence that evolution, global warming, or now climate change is?
Cameron was all kinds of wrong with his insensitive comments about Hawking, before he even got to the science part of things. It's unfortunate he had to resort to what amounted to name calling, whether intended or not.
Hawking stated his opinion, leaving people to believe it or not. Cameron could do the same thing without the "unfair disadvantage" and "free pass" crap.

Well, so much for anonymity. Yes, "Tired" is indeed "E". Now you truly know who I am haha.
I want to see Cameron's evidence that Heaven does exist.
What separates me from most so-called atheists is a feeling of utter humility toward the unattainable secrets of the harmony of the cosmos. (Albert Einstein to Joseph Lewis, Apr. 18, 1953)
Poppy, LMFAO. You're a laugh riot!

With that statement maybe Cameron should consider this...why would the theory of "something coming from nothing" be considered obsurd? For those that believe in God or any type of "Supreme Creator", have you ever wondered where "He" came from? A man of science can just as well pose that same question to a man of faith. In my opinion the argument can go either way...Where did God come from? Did He/She just appear from nothing? Does God have a God and if so where did God's God come from? When it comes to topics such as these it doesn't matter how intelligent you are...we all have adolescent minds in this category. Truth is, we should respect (not criticize) everyone's opinions on the matter.
Why would anyone listen to what a former teen star from 25 years ago would have to say? Why not go ask Leif Garrett about the theory of relativity????
