Katie Couric's final 'CBS Evening News' sign off

couric-cbs-goodbye.jpgAfter just five years as the anchor of the "CBS Evening News," Katie Couric signed off Thursday (May 19) for the last time.

Couric took over the network's top news spot after Dan Rather's unceremonious departure in 2006 after 44 years with CBS. "60 Minutes" correspondent Scott Pelley is scheduled to take over the nightly broadcast on June 6.

"To all of you watching, thank you so much for coming along with me on this incredible journey," said Couric after showing a five-minute montage of her greatest hits -- including the disastrous 2008 Sarah Palin interview.

Couric's next move isn't crystal clear yet, but she has reportedly been in talks with ABC to develop a talk show.

"That's the 'CBS Evening News' for tonight," she said at the close of the broadcast. "I'm Katie Couric. Good night."
