Joy Division's Ian Curtis died 31 years ago Wednesday

ian-curtis.jpgWednesday (May 17) marked 31 years since the death of Joy Division front man Ian Curtis. As chronicled in the 2007 movie "Control," Curtis battled crippling depression and epilepsy that eventually -- untreated -- led to his suicide at the age of 23.

But even though Curtis and Joy Division were only together for a short time, the band (a kind of proto version of New Order) left a huge impression. In fact, big enough that both "Joy Division" and "Ian Curtis" were trending terms on Twitter on Wednesday.

Fans from around the world tweeted out their memorials to Curtis, though most were of the simple variety, like this one from @felipeteasdf:
