John Lithgow's Newt Gingrich reading on 'Colbert': Better than the Gettysburg Address

john-lithgow-colbert.jpgIgnoring for a moment whatever preexisting feelings you might have about Newt Gingrich, his politics or his current presidential aspirations, we can all probably agree that his recent statement from press secretary Rick Tyler was a tad... much.

Slamming the "literati" and Washington outsiders, Tyler more or less referred to Gingrich's as a war here -- no, almost literally. "A lesser person could not have survived the first few minutes of the onslaught," he writes. "But out of the billowing smoke and dust of tweets and trivia emerged Gingrich."

It's dramatic enough on its own, so imagine how great it is being read boy Emmy and Tony winner John Lithgow.

The actor stopped by the May 19 taping of "The Colbert Report" to give it his spin, inadvertently convincing us that there's at least one more person we wouldn't mind see run for president:

Hilarious! John Lithgow is amazing and Colbert is a riot. I'd love to see Lithgow on the Colbert Report even more in the future.
