'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' trailer: The 'feel bad movie' of Christmas

You know the anticipation is high for a movie when people start pirating the trailers.

This shaky-cam version of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" trailer hit the 'net on Saturday, and we love it. It gives us our first glimpse of Rooney Mara -- who most know as the snarky girl-next-door type in "The Social Network" and "The Nightmare On Elm Street" remake -- as badass P.I. Lisbeth Salander, our anti-heroine with the tragic past.

Note, it's the red band trailer, but unlike most trailers marked with the "mature audiences only" stripe, it won't shock your boss or your grandmother with curse words or frank sex talk. It's a dark, disturbing story, but the trailer's most R-rated moment is a brief shot of obscured nudity.

The trailer is set to Trent Reznor and Karen O's collaborative cover of "Immigrant Song," by Led Zeppelin, of course, and if you know the book well, you'll be able to spot key scenes (in chronological order) in the brief barrage of shots we see.

Weigh in, book fans. Is this trailer enough to instill confidence in Mara, or are you reserving judgment? Will you be lining up at the box office to see the self-proclaimed "feel bad movie of Christmas"?

UPDATE: An official (and slightly more safe-for-work) trailer has now been released.

I just watched this trailer and that was the swedish orignal girl with the dragon tattoo that came out in 09' I believe.

Liz is correct.

You idiots, that's the swedish version with Noomi Rapace!

not to mention the fact that it says 2010...did we go back in time?

hehehe... time travel it is...

There's no way a Hollywood version of this trilogy can compete with the original Swedish film. The brooding undertones of the movie needs a deft touch and Hollywood is renowned for catering to mass audiences with less than stellar offerings.

Gotta agree with the last post. I'll bet anything that fans of the original Swedish release will be grinding their teeth at an American version of this series. Some things are best left in the original, although we all know this new version is dollar driven. The Swedish version captures the books characters incredibly well and anything less, such as girl next door Americana which will be foisted on audiences, will be a great disappointment.

You should be ashamed of yourself ! This is misrepresentation ! Verify your source before posting ! Is this just to allure traffic to your site ? If I were you I would take the post out of circulation ! By the way this is no Troll, this is real comment.

Yes Hollywood is known for catering to mass audiences but when was the last time you saw a Fincher film cater to a mass of people? You may say Social Network but let me tell you, that film is as disturbing as this one looks to be. Fincher looks to be back to his Se7en days and I for one am glad to see it!

Why is this movie being remade? Can't American's read subtitles?
