Box Office: 'Thor' leads, but with a meek $25.7 million
Newcomer "Thor" led the Friday (May 6) box office with $25.7 million, but may not be on pace to meet projections that had the superhero movie raking in $70 million for the weekend.Last weekend's winner, the Vin Diesel-led "Fast Five" held firm in second place with a respectable $10.5 million.
Chick flick "Something Borrowed" -- starring Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin in an adaptation of the best-selling Emily Giffin novel -- rounded out the top three, with $4.8 million. Hardly a blockbuster, but not bad for a rom-com.
"Jumping the Broom" grossed an estimated $4.2 million.
And, finally, bowing at a just 22 locations on Friday, Mel Gibson's "The Beaver" took in just $30,000.

Despite all the hype and all the hoopla, Thor basically is just a second-tier comic.
No doubt SYFY's Almighty Thor will have a big impact on the box, too.
Went and saw it. Pretty good I must say.
Thor is a very good movie...Go and watch it!
My small town theater which is usual dead at any showing before 5 was packed for the 4 o clock showing. I thought it looked good for it by looking at that.
Honestly, Thor sucked. Worst 3D ever!
Honestly i expected a much worse opening day. For a 2nd tier comic, 25 million is a good start. It should finish with 450-500 WW. Movie by the way was awesome!!!
You should probably not do anymore box office coverage. All of the professional box office trackers pegged Thor at getting to 60 million. So the 25 million first day is actually exceeding expectations.
Owned.
I didnt like the 3D but the movie was great anyways. I had no choice btw they were only showing the 3D version at my theater. Btw did anybody stay til after the credits to watch the extra scene?
iron man was a second-tier comic also, and it hammered on thor
