Box Office: 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' tops box office, can't break $100 million

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" was a force to be reckoned with at the box office this weekend, though not as much as past installments of Disney's film franchise. "Pirates 4" is on track to make $90.1 million -- an obvious disappointment considering it doesn't share its predecessors' $100-million three-day opening history.

Still, the film remains a huge success. Deadline reports "Pirates 4" now boasts the highest five-day opening in history, with $346.4 million worldwide.

Back at home, "Bridesmaids" and "Thor" battled it out for the #2 and #3 spots respectively -- showing "Bridesmaids" could be a big insurance performer, though this week's release of "Hangover II" could cannibalize some of its audience.

1. "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," $90.1 M
2. "Bridesmaids," $21 M
3. "Thor," $15.5 M
4. "Fast Five," $10.6 M
5. "Rio," $4.7 M
6. "Priest," $5.6 M
7. "Jumping The Broom," $3.7 M
8. "Something Borrowed," $3.4 M
9. "Water For Elephants," $2.2 M
10. "Madea's Big Happy Family," $990 K

It is unfortunate that Midnight in Paris, Bloodworth and Hard Breakers are only getting a limited release and that we won’t find out how they would have done commercially if released nationwide. They have interesting casts and it would have been interesting to see how smaller films for the main cast members would do commercially.

I hope this is the last ever Pirates of the Caribbean movie even though the scene after the credits was arrogantly included for yet another sequel to be made. The entire film series has been awful - bloated, overlong, overloaded, overstuffed, pretentious films about a one-note character.

It would be good if Johnny Depp does more dramas and plays more straight and normal characters. However, I have already given up on him from his poor choices in roles and projects and don't expect him to.

I see a typo with Priest. Also, regarding Pirates: has it not outperformed Thor as well as Fast Five? Why the negativity?

The true under-performer in this mix is Thor.

see it too... if thats the correct sales of Priest, shouldn't it be above Rio and not under...
