Bill O'Reilly, Jon Stewart debate Common White House controversy
FOX News Channel and Comedy Central political pundits Bill O'Reilly and Jon Stewart don't often see eye to eye. The controversy surrounding rapper Common's invitation to the White House Poetry event on May 11th is no exception. O'Reilly and Stewart had it out on FOX's "The O'Reilly Factor," debating whether or not the rapper's invitation was appropriate. Common has voiced his support of Joanne Chesimard (aka Assata Shakur), a member of the Black Liberation Army, who was convicted of killing a New Jersey State Trooper in 1977.
"I'm not saying he's promoting cop killing," O'Reilly says. "Celebrating a cop killer, yes"
Stewart counters, "What I think he's doing is not celebrating, but honoring someone he thinks was wrongly convicted of cop killing. I think he believes she was convicted unjustly."
"That's fine. And if Common, who wasn't even born when this crime took place, thinks that based on nothing because the evidence is overwhelming, he's entitled as an American to do that," O'Reilly fires back. "The President of the United States though, takes him into the house, thereby validating him. Come on, that was a bad decision."
Adding, "It elevates him as a poet or whatever. Do you know how many poets would have liked to be there?"
Stewart points out that there is much more to Common's career than this case, and adds that Bono, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen all fall under the same category of writing songs about convicted murderers.

I think Obama could've chosen a much better "poet" than Common...
And clearly Jon Stewart, as always, wins admirably as O'Reilly jumps to another topic... which he still won't win.
I watched Mr. O'Reilly and Jon
Steward tonight!! I agree with Mr. O'Reilly completely!!
Thank You,
Jeanne Murchison
Once again, Jon wins; once again, Bill comes across as an ***, stumbling over his words. Hey, Bill, you can always get a job dubbing Porky Pig cartoons. Why don't you just admit that when it comes to Obama, Fox news appears to be racist and staffed with a bunch of pious prigs!
Stewart FTW!!
Stewart by a KO in the 2nd round.
Common grew up in the same racist pews of Jeremiah Wright as the Obama's for 20years...It's a a pattern and lack of sensitivity on the same week Police Officers were Memorializing their dead. Poetry Night for Kids from a radical Rapper, is not so big until you look at the totality of associations with Terrorists Ayers, Frank Marshall Davis, Saul Alinsky's teachings the records he sealed for fear of revealing his radical views from college ...we have a stealth Marxist with Muslim sympathies in the White House.
The Entertainment Industry will spin it in Jon's favor but those who saw the interview and know more about the situation other than the happy face the Media puts on the tragic failure of this presidency know better. Most of us wanted Our Country to Succeed regardless of politics.
Well all the jokes stop being funny when people are still losing their Jobs, Homes, have to decide between buying Food or Gas cause of Obama's radical policies.
Collapsing the current system is the only way they can move us into global socialism by redistribution of Wealth, bailing out foreign banks and entities, rising fuel and food costs are just the tools. Both parties are in on it the only difference is that the Dems are doing it on Steroids. FOOD SHORTAGES will be the TRIGGER.
