Volkswagen Beetle redesigned: The 21st century bug is here and male friendly

VW-Beetle-2012.jpgThe 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is debuting with a bang.

The self proclaimed 21st Century bug was unveiled on Monday's (Apr. 18) "Live with Regis and Kelly" and is garnering quite a bit of buzz already.

In an obvious attempt to appeal to a broader (cough, male) demographic, the new design is bigger and sleeker while still maintaining that signature shape that made it famous. The edgy new punch buggy also boasts a 200-horsepower, turbo charged engine and Fender premium sound system.

Volkswagon is honoring the introduction of it's newest redesign with a live Auto Show in New York City. The Black Eyed Peas will take MTV's World Stage at 8 PM EST/5 PM PST in celebration of the automotive icon.

Fans can watch the advertisement performance live at WorldStage.MTV.com.

What do you think of the new Beetle? Has VW achieved the broader appeal they were going for? Take a look at the interior below.

This should make the mo's at GLAAD very mad, they may want an apology from VW.
