'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' trailer: James Franco monkeys around

The original "Planet of the Apes" series consisted of five movies released within a five-year period. The 21st-century incarnation of the saga is taking considerably longer.

The first trailer for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" has been released, and in it you'll see hints of how James Franco inadvertently gives rise to the ape uprising that will one day enslave humanity. The movie hits theaters on Aug. 5, 10 years and one week after Tim Burton's take on "Planet of the Apes" was released to mediocre reviews and pretty strong box office (it made $68 million in its first weekend and about $180 million total in the United States).

In "Rise," Franco plays scientist Will Rodman, who's developed a drug that "allows the brain to repair itself." He tests it on a chimpanzee named Caesar, whose brain function becomes greatly elevated and decides that he doesn't like being locked in a cage.

The trailer above also features glimpses of co-stars Freida Pinto, David Oyelowo, Tom Felton and Brian Cox, as well as Andy Serkis as Caesar. We're not sold yet; what do you think?

Which one was the ape and which one was James Franco?

Hope there's an APPE for that.

Sold? I'd buy my tickets today...it looks incredible...the way the previous movies should have been told! Can't Wait!

When the best part of the trailer is hyping "Weta Digital" the team behind "Avatar"...I think you have a problem.

Nice, I like that there are no explozions and gun battles. Franco I love you. Please marry me!

I don't understand why everything has to be explained these days. One of the appeals of the original apes saga is that we never had the reason for Caesar and the other apes gaining intelligence and speech - it just happened. (Well, actually in the case of Caesar it was a time paradox but that's too complicated for American viewers to grasp.)

is this gonna end like the last one where the dude came back from the ape planet only to find hes come to an alternate ape reality earth?
