'Real Housewives of New York' hubby Simon van Kempen releases a single -- for real
Well, music business, we tip our hats off to you on this one. Not only have several housewives been indoctrinated into the reality show-turned-music-artists hall of fame, but now one of the husbands from "The Real Housewives of New York" is getting into the act and he's donning his trademark red leather pants.
Alex McCord's other half, Simon van Kempen, releases his own single Thursday (April 21) called "I Am Real." It takes some of the hilarious antics Simon and the housewives go through on the Bravo show and sets it to a dance beat.
"Not many people know this, but I spent my childhood and early-twenties studying and performing as a musician," Simon says. "Music has been a huge part of my life, and although I never thought of myself as a singer, I was thrilled and a little nervous when Joel Simon and JSM approached me with idea of creating a song. More than anything, I wanted the track to be fun, irreverent and to talk about my real experience on the 'Real Housewives of New York City.' The title and lyrics are cheeky but hey, that's the REAL me!"
Mission accomplished, Simon. Our favorite lyrics?

Of course, his reference to Alex's new classic description of cast mate Sonja Morgan as "a thug in a cocktail dress" is a close second.
The song debuts on Thursday's "Watch What Happens Live" on Bravo at 11 p.m. ET and it's available for download on iTunes and other online music sites.
But... lucky you! We have a preview below:
Don't you all go download it all at once! Simon may shut down the Internet.
