Meet Edward Reid, nursery-rhyming 'Britain's Got Talent' contestant and Internet sensation

It seems we are contractually bound to call Edward Reid "the new Susan Boyle" in writing about him, because, well, everyone else is.

The 35-year-old Scotsman brought the house down on "Britain's Got Talent" over the weekend with his audition in Glasgow -- by singing a soulful mashup of several kids songs. The judges and the audience were giggling at first as he broke into "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," but by the time he segued from that into "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and then closed with "If You're Happy and You Know It," he earned a standing ovation.

The skeptical-to-rapturous response (and the fact that Reid's audition, like Boyle's, took place in Glasgow) has everyone comparing Reid to Boyle. But while we were just as delighted by Reid's out-of-left-field song choice as everyone else, it doesn't feel quite the same. That's primarily because Reid has a more polished stage presence than Boyle did at first.

Although he's done the nursery-rhyme mashup before, Reid doesn't seem like a one-trick novelty-song pony. He has a somewhat sparsely populated YouTube channel that features a few videos of him singing along to a karaoke machine in his living room and one of him singing Lady Gaga's "Pokerface" in front of a small crowd.

The "Pokerface" video was posted a year ago and is the last one Reid uploaded. Despite that, we expect his channel is in for a traffic spike following his "BGT" breakout. Take a look below:
