Liam Neeson replaced in 'The Hangover: Part II' cameo; Nick Cassavetes to tattoo Ed Helms' face

Nick-Cassavetes-Liam-Neeson.jpgIt's on to the next one for "The Hangover: Part II's" Bangkok tattoo artist character.

Mel Gibson was originally slated for the role, only to be replaced by the significantly more likable Liam Neeson in October. Though Neeson was well received in his performance, the part is being reshot with actor/director Nick Cassavetes.

We're bummed that the "Taken" actor and his gruff voice won't be making an appearance in the comedy, but director Todd Phillips tells Variety it's nothing personal.

He explains that during editing, the scene immediately following Neeson's appearance was cut, leaving a gap in the story line. Key information was then missing in order to allow the Wolf Pack's transition to the next scene.

Phillips decided to reshoot the tattoo artist's scene three weeks ago, but unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you feel about "Clash of the Titans") Neeson was busy in London shooting the WB sequel.

"We were in a complete time crunch so I called up Nick and asked if he would do the part," Phillips explains. "He came in and crushed it and that is the scene that you will ultimately see in the film... It turned out great."

As you can see in the trailer, Ed Helms' character gets a Mike Tyson inspired tattoo -- which we imagine came at the hand of Cassavetes. However much we would like to see that scene, it is our understanding that the film follows the same format as the first. Meaning we'll only see the tattoo artist in the aftermath of the previous night's events.

You can see "The Hangover Part II" when it hits theaters on May 26th.

Cassavetes is a great director but few know who he is. They should have found some has-been.
